This section contains stories of many of the dogs we have placed into loving caring family homes before they lost their final fight.
Although many animals have passed through the rescue we each shed a tear whenever one of 'our dogs' loses his chance to continue his happy life on this earth. We take great comfort when we know that even for the shortest time, our friend has been loved, cared for and felt the touch of kindness one last time. We also give thanks to each of our bereaved families for the gift of love and happiness they bestowed on our forever faithful friends, and to whom they opened their hearts and homes.
Night Night Our Babies

Rachel came into our care at the grand age of 9 years after her family moved to accomodation which was too small to accommodate a dog. We soon realised that the information we had been offered by her owners - that she was both dog and cat friendly - was inaccurate. Rachel repeatedly attacked the resident dog in foster care.
Rachel quickly found a new home but was returned immediately when it was realised she was also cat aggressive. Since her return Rachel has been desperately seeking her forever home without cats or dogs and where she could live happily.
Rachel was destined to spend Christmas in kennels with no offer of a suitable home. We then recieved a call from the kennel staff advising that Rachel appearred to be poorly. We took her to the vet who diagnosed a serious condition for which there was no hope of a cure and we had to make the decision to let Rachel go. We are so sorry that she never found her forever home but we are greatful for the kindness and care shown to Rachel in her last days by the management and staff of Liverpool Boarding Kennels.
Night Night Pretty Girl!

Candy found a fantasic forever home when she was fostered by one of the BDRNE team. She was not with Lyn for very long before it became obvious that she had found a very special place in he the hearts of her foster mum and her big foster brother Alfie. Together they had failed as fosterers and Candy was there to stay!
Candy became unwell early in 2009. She was losing her balance and struggling to negotiate stairs. The vet thought it was arthritis in her spine initially but after a while it became apparent that it was much more serious than that. She was diagnosed with a brain tumour and although her mum and Alfie did everything they could to support her, it became too much for Candy and it was decided that the kindest thing would be to say goodbye.
Candy lived the happiest two years with Lyn and Alfie where she was very much loved by everyone she met.
Night night precious girl - loved forever!
Elvis was not a BDRNE rescue. He was rescued by one of our committee when she visited the RSPCA in February 2007. He completed so many home checks and help with lots of other rescue activities so we feel he has earned his place in our hearts and here at Rainbow Bridge.

Elvis
Some folk are really lucky
They find a special friend
I life long loyal companion
Stands by their side until the end
Elvis found a Mummy
Who stood by him through thick and thin
A life of love and cuddles
A home to be so happy in
He had a kind a caring Dadda
And two sisters of his own
A little pussy cat called Polly
Then Thelma made our house a home
He had his early morning walk
Daily at 7:30 on the dot
A regular occurrence
In dry or wet or cold or hot
He would usually take a friend along
To help him on his way
A latex rubber chicken
Walked with us three times every day
His other love was biccies
He deserved one after every wee
Sometime he would pretend he’d been
And get a custard cream for free
Elvis was a mega beggar
With best ‘for begging’ paws & eyes
They worked a treat it’s obvious
They helped maintain his portly size
His great and best redeeming feature
Although he wasn’t very smart
He had a loving calming nature
And the kindest of all hearts
We will miss you dearest Elvis
And though we never chose your name
You became the ‘King’ of all our hearts
And we are grateful that you came
So play with Jade and Sammy
Whilst you wait for us to come
We will miss you more than words can say
Your ever doting Dad and Mum

Leo went to his new home in March 2008 where he was a much loved family member. He settled well and was very happy. He enjoyed cuddles and loved to sit on the stairs to look out of the window and watch the world go by.
Sadly, earlier this year Leo developed some problems with his stomach. He was found to have a large tumour in his abdomen which was removed along with a significant portion of his intestines. Although Leo recovered well from the surgery the loss of so much of his intestine left him with little ability to digest his food. Over time he became very weak and there was nothing which could be done to make him better.
Leo went to the bridge on 3rd June 2009 - leaving behind a devastated family who loved him dearly.
Good Night Leo - you big bouncy boy - you will never be forgotten!
Ellie
Just after Christmas 2008 Ellie left her doting family and went to Rainbow Bridge. She has had a wonderful holiday on the beach and paddling in the sea. She will be sadly missed by all of the family especially her new mum and dad.

So glad you found happiness in the end and so sad it was such a short time lived.
Night night sweet Ellie!
Clay
Clay was a big old fella who loved the sound of his own voice. He went to live with a lovely family who gave him everything he could have wanted and he lived life to the full. Clay became ill in the Autumn and coped well until he finally lost his battle in February this year. He spent his last months as a much loved part of the family and will be sadly missed.

Sleep tight big fella!
Grandad Ben

Ben came to us in September 2007. He was 12 years old, Ben lived life to the full and never let the younger dogs outrun him. He had a fantastic year. But started to show his age in August 08. He made numberous trips to the vet, he was 90% deaf, had cataracts in both eyes and his back end was slowly giving up on him. Sadly Ben collapsed in the garden and was rushed to the vet. His gums were white and he seemed in pain. The vet was positive he was bleeding internally, it was likely he had a tumour in his Abdomen which had ruptured. He was in pain and the kindest thing was to send him on his way.
Ben left for the Bridge on the 22nd September 2008.

Sleep tight gorgeous old boy, one in a million who will NEVER be forgotten
Chance
Many of you will remember Chances story from the 'Sad Stories' Page.
Sadly Chance left us on the 10th September 2008.
I think i knew then that it was time, so I took him straight to the vets and she agree'd he had no quality of life anymore and his condition had progressed too far now. Although in his head he was still a young happy boxer, his body had given up.

Sasha
The lovely Sasha sadly left for the bridge on the 28th Dec 07, after just 6 weeks with her new family. Sasha was unwell and was taken to the vets, after an xray the vet found a massive tumour on her heart, within the hour of being there she peacefully passed away. She had the best 6 weeks ever and was in the best home possible to spend her last days.
RIP Sasha
Duke
On the 19th October 2007 our lovely gentle giant Duke made his way to rainbow bridge, aged 10 years. Duke was loved by everyone who met him and had a huge character. Duke passed away just 1 week after finding his forever home, he unfortunately had end stage kidney failure which could not be treated. Everyone is devastated and miss him so much.
One who possessed Beauty without Vanity,
Strength without Insolence,
Courage without Ferocity,
and all the Virtues of Man, without his Vices.
This Praise, which would be unmeaning
Flattery if inscribed over human ashes
is but a just tribute to the Memory of Duke
Goodbye Duke, sleep well...
Boxer Angels
For those Boxer Babies in the sky
Who have left our loving arms
Don't stop to ask or wonder why
Just know they're free from harm
No pain or fright confronts them now
They've left that all behind
They're embracing joy and freedom
And still live in our minds
Eyes are bright and seeing clear
Velvet skin is healed
Legs aren't stiff, and ears can hear
Our love they still can feel
Embrace their memory, hold it tight
Wipe away your tears
The Boxer joy that filled your life
Will last throughout the years
Think of them with happy thoughts
Say a thankful prayer
All those happy Boxer angels
Still know that we care
Rainbow Bridge ![]()
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....
